Our aim throughout this production was to create a space that would adapt to the vastly different themes of each scene, creating unique worlds in each song all grounded within the everchanging landscape of the 1960's. We felt that the darker, moodier themes and landscapes of the earlier scenes, including songs such as Britten's 'The turn of the screw' existed within the earthy tones and conservative dress and ideals of the early 1960's, while the fun, carefree, party world of the later scenes such as Strauss's 'Die Fledermaus' captured the 'psychadelic 60's' aesthetic of the later part of the decade. We kept a minimal set to accomodate an easily adaptable space, which featured to large curtains that allowed the space to open up as well as contract to create a more intimate space when needed.
